The ASHRAE Global Occupant Behavior Database aims to advance the knowledge and understanding of realistic occupancy patterns and human-building interactions with building systems. This database includes 34 field-measured occupant behavior datasets for both commercial and residential buildings, contributed by researchers from 15 countries and 39 institutions covering 10 different climate zones. It includes occupancy patterns, occupant behaviors, indoor and outdoor environment measurements.
In commercial buildings, lighting contributes to about 20% of the total energy consumption. Lighting controllers that integrate occupancy and luminosity sensors to improve energy efficiency have been proposed. However, they are often ineffective because they focus solely on energy consumption rather than providing comfort to the occupants.
